There is a mandatory parent/student meeting for those going to the Arkansas or Central Illinois Regional on Feb 19 at 7pm in room S8 @ DHS.
Since we are lucky enough to have a regional in our own "backyard" this year, it is expected that we also supply some of the volunteers. This includes students, parents and mentors. Please read the following from the organizers of the CIR and volunteer for a few hours or a few days!!
In a few short weeks, we will host the Central Illinois Regional March 18-21, 2015. This cannot happen without help from all of you. The event will run smoothly if we have an adequate team of volunteers.
We realize that all of you are mentors and have responsibility with your team during the event. Tim and I are in the same situation as you all are, so I understand the problem.
This is what we need from local mentors:
Help with load in and load out (Wednesday night, Saturday night)
Help with field assembly and dissasembly (Wednesday 1pm start time, Saturday after the event is over) (target number is 12 people each time)
Robot Inspector Thursday morning and early afternoon. We need a miniumum of 10 inspectors.
so far I have one from MarsWars/Washington and 3 from Roboteers. This experience allows you to get up close and personal with all the competition to see the guts of their machines.
I need one or two more Referees (these could be alumni who are a few years out from your team that are in the area....)
This is what we need from parents/alumni
We need a Pit Announcer
We need one more team queing person
We need someone to organize the Safety Glass station on Thursday morning and make sure the rest of the safety glass volunteers show up for their shifts.
Spare Parts Attendants
Field Reset People: (depending on the match there is the potential of handling 1,000 pounds of equipment each match. This year we need people in good physical shape to do this job. I need at least 6 more adults) You get a ring-side view of each match. But seriously they must be organized, able to lift lots of equipment and able to work under pressure and under direction.
To sign up to volunteer: first go to the Illinois First website page for CIR Volunteers:
Please read through the entire page and then follow the instructions to register for the event. Even if you are a mentor, you need to register for the event using the VIMS system.
Any questions: please contact Vera Koch, volunteer coordinator
We need to finalize our volunteer base very quickly. We have a hard and fast deadline of January 16 for many positions due to training needed and ordering of volunteer shirts, etc.
I appreciate your help with this and hope to hear from many of you very soon!
Good luck with the build season!
Since there is no school, we will not be meeting at school.
